The overall pass percentage of Chandigarh’s government senior secondary schools in the CBSE examinations stood at 87.25%, a decline of 1.54 percentage points from last year’s 88.79%. However, the city’s government schools still performed better than the national average, which stood at 85.2%.
At the national level, the CBSE pass percentage dropped by 3 percentage points from last year’s 88.39% to 85.2% this year. Despite the decline, Chandigarh government schools recorded a pass percentage that was 2 percentage points higher than the national average.
Girls continued to outperform boys in government senior secondary schools. Of the 5,322 girls who appeared for the examination, 4,819 passed, while 4,169 out of 4,933 boys cleared the exam.
According to the UT administration, the fall in pass percentages at both the national and UT levels may be due to stricter and competency-based evaluation methods, increased focus on conceptual learning under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the implementation of digital evaluation through On-Screen Marking (OSM).
Two schools achieved pass percentages above 95% — Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, and Government Senior Secondary School, Manimajra Town. In addition, 16 schools recorded pass percentages of 90% and above.
A total of 348 students secured marks above 90%, compared to 225 students last year.
Among boys, the overall CBSE pass percentage stood at 82.13%, while Chandigarh government schools registered a higher pass percentage of 84.51%. Similarly, among girls, the national CBSE pass percentage was 88.86%, whereas girls from UT government schools recorded 90.55%.
Stream-wise results showed mixed trends. The medical stream recorded a pass percentage of 82.88%, down from 93.25% last year. The non-medical stream stood at 79.06%, compared to 87.71% in the previous session. Commerce recorded 88.92%, slightly lower than last year’s 92.05%. However, the arts stream showed improvement, registering an 87.94% pass percentage against 86.50% last year.
